Aridhia provides a cloud-based platform for research hospitals to participate in collaborative biomedical research with universities and life sciences companies. Our customers work with patients and other research participants to create research-ready datasets and algorithms that drive the next generation of innovation in health.

High quality data drives Precision Medicine and it must be organised, available and ready for machine learning and statistical analysis. Diverse data types including hospital patient records, clinical trial, genomic and medical imaging sources are combined and filtered for highly specialist research topics. The results of research are re-integrated to create learning healthcare systems.

We’re currently looking for a talented entry-level Data Engineer to join our team.

What you’ll deliver

As a Data Engineer you will support our customers in automation to make their data more findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR data). Your technical and analytical skills will enable hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and universities to provide biomedical researchers access to the best data to their projects, while respecting patient privacy, consent and confidentiality.

As part of a multi-disciplinary agile team, you will learn and apply new data engineering skills to develop, create and maintain data processing pipelines on time and at scale. You will be expected to participate fully in teams that will include members from multiple, international customer and partner organisations.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for graduates or entry-level professionals looking for a great opportunity to develop new skills in a worthwhile and growing sector.

Required technical skills

  • Competent in the use of SQL (we use PostgreSQL)
  • Competent in programming (we use python, ruby and javascript)
  • Experience of team work, especially delivering to commercial customers
  • Knowledge of data management principles, ETL best practices and test-driven development
  • Experience of working with diverse source data formats (CSV, JSON, XML) and some familiarity with data APIs over the web

The ideal candidate

  • Creative, enjoys problem solving, strong attention to detail
  • Motivated, takes initiative and can handle multiple project demands
  • Willingness to take responsibility for deliverables
  • Good written and verbal communication skills – occasional travel to customer sites required
  • Desire to learn and develop new skillsets in the area of data science and machine learning, working with statistical programming languages (we use R, Shiny, python)

Lisa has a range of HR experience gained in high-growth, Scottish technology companies including Wolfson Microelectronics, Axios Systems, and Sumerian Europe prior to working with Aridhia Informatics in 2010. Lisa is also Director for Scotland of Startup Grind, a networking organisation for entrepreneurs, and is a 2014/15 Saltire Fellow with Entrepreneurial Scotland. She has recently returned from a programme of accelerated MBA programme studies at Babson College in Boston USA and is Founder of Purpose, a niche HR/Management growth consultancy to early stage and investor backed businesses.
