The NIHR University College London Hospitals Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) is the result of a partnership between University College London (UCL) and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH). It is one of five comprehensive BRCs across England conducting translational research in order to turn scientific research into innovative treatments and therapies that improve patient outcomes.
“The collaborative analytics platform should be a huge benefit for research…” Nick McNally, Chief Operating Officer, NIHR University College London Hospitals Biomedical Research Centre
The BRC is participating in the National Institute for Health Research Health Informatics Collaborative Programme (NIHR HIC), and working towards making NHS clinical data more readily available and accessible for researchers, industry and the NHS in order to realise benefits for the NHS itself, as well as patients and the public.
As part of the HIC programme UCL/UCLH is focused on delivering IT capability to support the sharing and use of NHS data for research, with a focus on critical care. In 2015 the BRC engaged Aridhia to deliver a data dive event – an important showcase for the informatics datasets that had been creating over the past 18 months. The event was specifically designed to demonstrate the power of data sharing, and reveal how data science can support multidisciplinary teams to collaborate, integrate and interrogate information in meaningful and informative ways.
