Federated Node V1.0

Over the past year we’ve published a number of blogs on Aridhia’s work with the PHEMS consortium, particularly on the development of the Federated Node (FN), our open-source data federation software.

The most recent blog detailed the creation of the PHEMS network with the onboarding of the first partners, and how GitHub is used to manage the analytical code and initiate tasks.

A beta version of the FN has been available under the GNU GPL V3 licence since November 2025, however with creation of the network and product improvements based on early adopter feedback we are pleased to declare V1.0 of the PHEMS Federated Node.

Features of V1.0

Easy to deploy

By design, the Federated Node is a lightweight component for federated data sharing, not a complete product. This simplifies integration with a data owner’s existing architecture.

Built on existing standards

As detailed in a previous blog, the FN is built on other well established open-source projects, making it easier for new users to adopt and deploy it.

TRE Integration

As detailed above, the FN is a component designed to be easily integrated with a wider secure ecosystem. This whitepaper details how users of the Aridhia DRE can quickly and easily integrate a Federated Node with their secure environment.

Outbound only connectivity

Security is rightly a paramount concern for most data owners, and with particularly sensitive data this can mean that they are unable to open inbound connections to their secure network. Where this is the case, the FN can be configured to run with outbound connections only, our previous blog detailed how this works in the PHEMS network.

Git integration

Our previous blog also detailed how GitHub can be integrated with the FN and used to store analytical code and initiate tasks.

Database virtualisation

The FN supports integration with the following database types:

• Postgres
• Oracle
• Microsoft SQL
• MySQL
• MariaDB

Next steps

We will continue to gather feedback from early adopters and fold this into our roadmap where necessary, particularly with regard to ease of deployment and integration with other systems. However, our main development focus for the remainder of 2025 will be on enabling the PHEMS machine learning use cases in the FN.
