Our DRE is your SDE
8 years in the making
Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and Aridhia have worked in partnership for over eight years to develop and evolve the GOSH Digital Research Environment.
This collaboration brings together GOSH’s deep expertise in data engineering, data science, data governance, and clinical research, underpinned by Aridhia’s robust infrastructure and advanced tooling.
Together, they are now offering a joint solution to the wider UK research and healthcare community.
Built for research, by research experts
GOSH will extend access to its existing Digital Research Environment, often referred to as the Secure Digital Environment (SDE) to external researchers, hospitals and organisations.
This environment, along with GOSH’s in-house expertise in data engineering, data science and governance of paediatric and rare disease data, provides a powerful platform for secure and efficient research.
Tried and tested, right here in the UK
This joint offering enables researchers and hospitals to quickly benefit from the proven infrastructure and capabilities of the GOSH SDE, dramatically reducing the time, cost and complexity of establishing their own environments.
With over 400 projects currently running on three hubs across the UK, including one specifically designed for working with identifiable data, demonstrating the maturity and trustworthiness of GOSH’s SDE.
Dedicated spaces built for secure data research
Each hospital or organisation joining the GOSH SDE will operate within its own dedicated and fully separated environment, ensuring data privacy and organisational independence at all times. Data security is critical to GOSH’s research initiatives.
The SDE meets internationally recognised security standards, including ISO 27001 for information security, ISO 27701 for privacy management, HITRUST and Cyber Essentials Plus certification. It also aligns with NHS Digital’s Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) and GDPR regulations.
Advanced security measures, such as role-based access controls, encryption, audit logging, and trusted Identity Providers (IdPs) for SSO, provide a robust framework for secure research collaboration.
Security is a core priority for the DRE, visit our Security & Compliance page to find out more about how it measures up to UK, EU and Global standards.
Ready when you are
This is a well-established and successful model already in use by other Aridhia partners.
It eliminates or reduces the time, effort, costs, and complexity typically involved in setting up your own Secure Digital Environment (SDE) and SDE team. With ongoing support from both the GOSH and Aridhia teams, you’ll have expert guidance every step of the way.
This proven model not only enables swift adoption but also facilitates valuable knowledge sharing and collaboration among hospitals and research institutes and the health sector more broadly.
If you’d like to find out more about buying a research platform rather than building your own, we’ve written a detailed article about it.
